VS2019 Upgrade to 16.6.0 major issue

There is a major issue being experienced across the VS2019 community when updating VS2019 to the latest 16.6.0 version. See https://developercommunity.visualstu...omment-1041312 (and also https://developercommunity.visualstu...up.WMIProvider for all the duplicate reported problems!).

I had the issue myself, and for me Retry and Modify then a reboot seemed to fix it.

Just a heads up that you might wish to delay updating to 16.6 until this issue is resolved.

Yes. I had similar problems on two different PCs yesterday. The errors were however slightly different.
Anyway Modify/Restart helped on both PCs.

Re: VS2019 Upgrade to 16.6.0 major issue

    From Microsoft:

We are working on a solution to this problem so that it won’t happen again, but this won’t help you if you are already experiencing it. This is a SxS issue where a computer has to have two different version of VS in order to see it. The solutions mentioned by those who retried or repaired are valid. As far as I know this is the only problem with the install so I expect VS be fully functional once the retry/repair completes successfully.

We are testing a solution to this problem and intend to release it as soon as we complete internal testing.

Apologies at the significant disruption this has caused.

Re: VS2019 Upgrade to 16.6.0 major issue

Even with 16.6.1, issues regarding the upgrade are still being reported.16.6.1 seems to work OK for some but not for others.

I had a similar problem yesterday on a work computer. How did you solve it?

Re: VS2019 Upgrade to 16.6.0 major issue

The issue was solved in the 16.6.2 (I think) release. If you are experiencing the same issue installing the latest version (16.8.3), then I would raise a new issue report with MS.
