Well, yes and no...While Pugh's skip list is based on some solid scientific research, the thing that I developed (that didn't even have a name at all) was some sort of cowboy-style programming. And the fact that I never published it would have made it impossible to prove what I had done. So I think I can't complain about being another one of those nameless heroes
, at least when it's abuot this invention.
Ah, and of course Pugh did not optimize my data structure because he never saw it. He just invented something really similar. And, BTW, the mathematical concept of integration was independantly "invented" (as far as the term "invention" can be applied to mathematical concepts at all) by Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wilhelm Libnitz too. (And I would never dare to compare myself to anyone of these three...)
I did never question that there surely is a vast lot of funny smilies out there on the net. I was just wondering how you could put it into this forum in a way that I did't even see some kind of link when I quote it into my message. I think the software you pointed to is the answer, but it's still a mystery to me how it might do that.
And * is really a valid character in a domain name!?
I don't even dare to think about how many hits a Google search for the single word "smiley" would give me...
At least I'll keep that links you posted in mind for future usage...
