I have a client (win 98) and server (win NT) setup where the client is opening a CDatabase using the openex function. The database source file is located on the Win NT server. Looking at the network trace the client is attempting to open the shared file with a share mode of compatibility. As a result the server rejects the request to open the file, since the file has already been opened by another process. Why is the client attempting to open the shared file with a share mode of compatibility? Note that both the client and server have their file systems configured for optimal performance according to the OS's.
