Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras.....
Due to lots of Polish immigrants in Detroit, it is often called Paczki day here.

Re: Paczki Day
Happy Paczki day then!
Wow, I am Polish, I know what does "paczki" mean, but have no idea why they call it Paczki Day... And in Poland Fat(Shrove?) Tuesday is on Thursday

Paczkis are the Jelly Doughnuts that they serve here on Fat Tuesday. That's Detroit for you. They name it after the high point of the day. No parades, carnivals..just jelly doughnuts.

Re: Paczki Day
That's odd.
In Poland we have Pączki day in thursday (last week). We call it "tłusty czwartek" which can be directly translated to "fat thursday". In that day we used to eat a lot of friedcakes (pączki ).
Today is "śledzik" day. Time to drink vodka and eat "śledzika" (snack from herring fish) and to have last dance (in Carnival)....
Best regards,
Krzemo.
