If not a programmer, what would you be?
Just think for a while...What would you have been, had you not been a programmer? What was your dream and what had you always wanted to be? Do you think you have done what you wished to? I know its tough because of so many constraints but still ...
My answer - I would have had been a teacher..either coaching people to get through the various engineering entrance exams or would have been teaching physics in some school or college!

Re: If not a programmer, what would you be?
I was always interested in scientific stuff. In school I liked chemistry and astronomy (especially astrophysics). So probably today I would be some sciencist messing with chemicals or travelling through hyperspace

I do not know. Possibly a mathematician. Or a professional chess player, since I am playing a lot.

Re: If not a programmer, what would you be?
I always wanted to be a police officer & move up the ranks to either become a highway patrol officer handing out tickets to kids in their souped up imports or a detective working undercover bringing down drug gangs.
**sigh**
I have friends in both jobs now, they love it and its all that its cracked up to be...
**sigh** I think its a nice day outside but I'm stuck in front of this computer... again...
Now I'm depressed... Who started this topic!!!

I somehow think they might have a bit of an issue accepting an application from someone who doesn't speak a word of Ukranian(Russian?) and knows nothing about the history of Ukraine or any social knowledge of the country.

That would be all the cocaine to help them get so "creative".
Ever since I got my first computer I wanted to be a computer programmer. Now I am one... Some sort of health professional would be good - doctor, dentist, etc. Or like deniz says, something outside. Worked as a prospector for a mining company during uni holidays a few years back - that was definitely a great job.

Exactly! I would love to be a Farmer. have my own farm. grow chicken and blah blah blah... this BTW remains my dream... when i would be in a better financial situation, I would buy a farm and leave IT to fulfill my dream...

And how about debug code in your spare time, or moderating CG along side. A farmer programmer or former programmer
Do let me know when you have the plans, who knows, we may buy farms side by side where you can grow chickens, and I'll harvest the land, although I'm pretty much old but still I love to run across the fields of green in the poring rain and catch butterflies in the afternoon...ah....just dreams

How could you be pretty much old..since you smoke heavily...i heard u saying sometime back..that heavy smokers never get old...c'mon... u r not!!! And Andy's chickens would fly by your farms destroying ur small plants, crops..and u would be chasing them.. and then diving into mud..and then u would look back at them running away into Andy's arms with a cute smile ... ...
I too love going to my village and spending time there.. diving into the river from the 30-40 metre high barrage top...aaahh ..its great fun i tell u ... and then fishing in the river in the rainy season.. (u even catch some dangerous creatures too ... ) and then fry them .. and eat at the same time...
Its really a dream... (there are not enough emoticons with the editor..i am curious if we could manage some more ..
