Business Intelligence: VS2003 & VS2005
Hi All,
just have quick question about business intelligence projects especially reporting services. I have installed on my computer SQL 2005 and VS 2005 and of course VS 2003. All business inteligence project runs well under VS2005. But I can't run it (or even create) business intelligence project under VS2003. I've double checked and I'm sure that all possible components for VS2003 are installed. (this is enterprise architect version). Do I have to install SQL 2000 on my machine to get it working? Or do I have to reconfigure something? I wat to run business inteligence projects on my machine under both VS2003 (.NET1) and VS2005 (.NET2)
Any advice, comment or suggestion is welcome.

Re: Business Intelligence: VS2003 & VS2005
Hi,
If memory services me correctly you do not get the Report Services as standard with Visual Studio .net 2003. You'll need to download this from Microsofts web site. I think you can only use the SQL 2000 Report Services with VS2003 due to the .net version.
Also, there are certain features in Report Services 2005 that are not present in the 2000 version (i.e Report builder that allows user to build there own reports from cube/MDX quiries you pre-defined).
Also if you as just interested in using the Report Services in the 2005 you don't need to install the full VS2005 suite as the report services come with SQL2005 and are built within the VS2005 shell.
Hope this helps.

Re: Business Intelligence: VS2003 & VS2005
SQL-2005 = .Net 2.0 = VS-2005
SQL-2000 = .Net 1.1 = VS-2003

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; in practice there is.

Re: Business Intelligence: VS2003 & VS2005
Thank you.
As for now - as I posted this question in february - all reports had been done (SQL/VS 2005 only), are tested and going to live within couple of days. But thanks for your answers anyway
