Question Vista - CG NL chatter

In today's Codeguru newsletter I mention that 100 million copies of Vista have been sold at retail. A couple of questions -

Have you bought a copy of Vista (or a machine with Vista on it)?
Do you still have it installed?

I actually have several copies of Vista, but I only have it currently installed on one secondary drive on one machine.

At my work we have ordered many machines with the licenses for both XP and Vista. That way, we can go both ways. Currently we have Vista installed only on a few. XP is still my preference when it comes to Windows.

I did have Vista installed on my laptop. However, one of the updates caused it to think that *every* CD/DVD I put in the drive was blank (and did I want to format it?). At first, I thought it was the drive, until I fired up VMWare, and "booted" into Linux. Linux could read the disks just fine.

    I've since downgraded to XP.

Nope - I purchased a new computer last summer with Vista installed, but deprecated it to XP as soon as I got it. From the problems I've seen with Vista on clients' machines, I'm not looking forward to using it myself. At least until SP1 is released.

I deleted RC2 of the Beta, because of driver problems on an older laptop.
I installed Ultimate on the same machine, and it seems to be running very well. The sound appeared! Everything but the video glass and the modem.

Installed VS2008 on it as well. I remote into it to work on it, as there's a short in the power cord. It's stationary.

Originally, I was frustrated with Vista after I installed it a few months ago. I upgraded my RAM to 2GB and things have been much smoother. I use XP at work and Vista Business at home. I prefer Vista now, but its been a long road.

When the driver manufacturers catch up with Vista, things will go smoother. Unfortunately Vista catches the blame for poorly written drivers.

Anyone have SP1 yet? I don't, but read some good things about it.

I have to admit that I'm not very proud to say that I have Vista installed. It's part of the college's Microsoft Subscription pack. I have Vista at home, but XP at work.

At first I was so impressed with Vista and all the little "perks" and features, but the more I've been using it, the more I miss XP. I almost decided the other day to go back to XP on my home machine, but, I'll keep it - until the next issue that is

Tell me if you agree with this --

It seems interesting that many people have this same feeling -- almost a feeling of shame or guilt -- to admit they have Vista installed and running. It is almost as if the popular opinion is that you are a bad person if you are running Vista....

Well, from my perspective, I'm the only one within my family that has Vista installed, the others just don't want to go through what I'm going through, so they don't actually see me as a bad person ( they know better ), they just think I'm dumb to have had Vista for so long.

I convinced a friend to buy a new computer a few months back, and got Vista Home. What a mistake. Then we find out it doesn't do networking!
At least there are workarounds to share folders.

He reminds me that I sold him on Microsoft Products for the past 10 years, and he thinks he should have waited. Of course, he was still complaining bout XP, and W2K (which are also running locally)

Three other customers love it, though. An accountant said that was the first time his laserjet started printing instantly! Another retired client called for two weeks asking about everything, but now loves it.

Getting the right version of Vista is critical. Vista Home is not good for anyone that would otherwise come to Codeguru....

We are running the beta on one of our Vista machines. It is leaps and bounds of an improvement!
