We are looking to develop a software component that will detect signal strength and roaming mode for a v.92 modem. Could someone give me a hint on how to get started on something like this?

Here are some specific questions:
1. Should we be looking into TAPI to do this.
2. Should we being looking at the v.92 spec to see how things like signal strength and roaming mode are reported?
3. Can anyone recommend a method for detecting these two quantities (signal strength and roaming mode)?
