SPAMMER posting comments on my article : Creating an Outlook Add in Part 2
Hi guys
There seems to be a spammer I cannot do anything about. His name is jersey123 He has been bulldozing my article with spam.
My article is here :
http://www.codeguru.com/vb/gen/vb_ge...le.php/c19385/
Have a look at the comments section, that is where they post their $#it!
Now, I am wondering, how many more of our articles have fallen victim to spammers? Anyone else out there?
Something needs to be done with banning users not ONLY from the forums, but from the Articles section as well. I do have another article which will be published soon, AND one I am busy with; and honestly if this happens again I'll have to consider not writing articles anymore. Sorry if it seems frank, but what is the use to have an article with many views, but only with spam comments??

Actually, the guy is hitting a lot of articles, so it isn't personally aimed at you. I think there might even be a bot involved based on the number posts he is getting through. I've blocked him at the site level, but he has gotten around that.
I have our admins, DBAs, and devs looking at this to see if there is a way to stop the guy. We'll figure it out and get him blocked. I've also asked that comments with 'jersey' in them be removed.

We've globally removed all the spammed comments from this guy. Let me know if more get added and we'll take the next step....

Thanks for all your efforts Brad. I know it's not personally aimed at me, it is just strange that nobody has reported this before - don't people read comments of their articles anymore?
Anyways, bad news. He has now made a new user name jersey12300. I got hit just now again on the same article.
Just thought to let you know.

Actually, one other person had reported this issue. I didn't realize the issue went to a number of other articles.
Our DBAs removed the newest comments again. We are talking internally about how to manage this. We are actually in the process fo changing the underlying CMS that Codeguru uses, so that is raising the question of how much we do now knowing that within a few months the new CMS will address this issue differently.

The evil spammer, jersey12300, has left three more messages on my article. Could you do that global zap again please?
Thanks,

I also got it in my article a few times. I did not complain because I figure Brad will take care of it.

Although it seems like it, I am also Not compalining. If we do not report these types of issues Brad and the gang will have a difficult time knowing that a problem exists. We must report any issue.
FYI, there is a new player in town named David ( something ) posting other stuff as well. So we have 2 spammers now

Agreed - please keep bringing these to my attention. Eventually the DBAs and developers will get tired of me having them do global removes and thus they will build something to help block these guys.
These spammers are doing a bit more than the basic spammers we deal with.

If you can include an article URL (or ID) along with the spammer name, it makes it easier for me. If "Jersey" is the spammer, then we know they likely hit lots of articles. Hannes - I'll have to look at the new name you gave.

Just an idea, change jersey12300's password on him so he can't post.
Of course, he/she will just create a new account...
