I want to connect to a remote database through Internet connection using the Visual Basic. Can any one guide me in this regard?

The requirement is from Client site I should be able to access the database through the Dialup network and post the data into server database. For this I am not using the ASP or HTML. THis should be done through VB only. If the server is not connected to the network that info should be shown to the user. How can I do it?
