Unhappy Can I add new hard disk to a WinXP

I am planning to buy a new computer, almost every one is WinXP. However, I don't want to throw away my old hard disk. Can I add my old hard disk to the new computer as a slave disk without talking with Microsoft on the license?

What kind of hardware will not affect the WinXP?

    Thanks,

    Frank

If it's a slave drive in the sense that you'll use it for data but never want to boot up from it, I'd guess that it should be okay. However, if you still want to boot from the old drive I'd say almost certainly not.

I'm fairly confident about this because I just replaced my motherboard which, to all intents and purposes, Windows XP regards as a new PC. I had to reactivate the software with Microsoft but they were perfectly OK about it. I didn't have to pay any extra fees etc.

    Cheers,

    John
