The combination is o.k. Depending upon the degrees you hold, you may also like to go for Sun's Java Certifications. I find that http://java.sun.com is an excellent resource. Join their Developer mailing lists and forums.

Are you targetting some particular database products (specializing in Oracle/mySQL/etc) ? or just using databases in general?

For the books, I personally liked the "Core Java" series from Sun.

My suggestion is not to be so specific. More times, than not... will you be working with quite a few other databases than oracle, and quite a few other programming languages.

    Good luck!

Hi ,In your response to my thread, you said :

"My suggestion is not to be so specific. More times, than not... will you be working with quite a few other databases than oracle, and quite a few other programming languages."

Would you please give me some more suggestions on how to do things well in this industry?I am confused by people some said "You should do this ,because .......,so........" and others said"No ,No,What you need to do is ......"?If not to be so specific ,I guess what your suggestion really is "learn the skeleton of them ,and the time you REALLY learn something deeply is the time you enconter them in work",is this right?

Thank you Joan_fl for you suggestions.
