Well the key is that Uncle Sam's initials are US. He is a fictional character who symbolizes the US government(Big Brother?). Sort of like John Bull for England. Supposedly there was some guy long ago who was used as the prototype for uncle sam but on the whole it is just a slangy way of referring to the US government.
They could have as easily used Elvis.

I thought Tom is just a man who just graduated from university and is having a young wife?!!
Just graduated? It hasn't been that long.
I finished my Ph.D. in 1999. I finished undergraduate in 1982. I worked many years then quit and went back to school.
Young wife? Well my lady is 49. I guess that is pretty young

Actually you guys, Uncle Sam was created in 1789 as a representaion of Congress. I never really noticed that the initials were US, thats pretty cool.

This does not sync with the explanation given at most websites of the origin of uncle sam in the first half of the 1800's.

well thats what my US History teacher said. He first appeared as a man pulling out his empty pockets to raise money for the gov't, according to what i read in my history textbook...
