Wanted: Have you contributed an article yet?

We are looking for people to contribute more articles on Managed C++, VC++ .NET, general .NET Framework usage, and more. If you've been working with these, consider contributing an article to the CodeGuru.com site.

Be aware that we can add new categories to the .NET section if needed.

You can find submission guidelines at:

    http://www.codeguru.com/SubmissionsGuidelines.html.

You can see the current site for topics that have already been covered. If you are not sure about a topic, drop me a PM or e-mail.

We are always interested in C++ and VC++ articles as well. Just be sure to check the site for existing articles, before taking the time to write on a topic.

    Thanks!

    Brad!

We are currently in the process of spec'ing out a redesign of the site that will hopefully include an automated submission process.

Part of the reason our articles are delayed in getting posted is that we have a grammatical editor on staff who goes through all of the articles before they are posted. There is no problem with posting articles to both sites as long as you submit them through the appropriate submission processes.

You should have received a response stating that your article was received. You'll receive a second response when it is posted. If you didn't receive the first response, drop me an e-mail or PM.

There is not a downloadable version of the template; however, you can easily hightlight, copy, and paste the template on the submissions page:

    http://www.codeguru.com/SubmissionsGuidelines.html

I'll see what I can do to add a downloadable version in the near future.

If www.CodeGuru.com is re-designed, Is rate available

    Hello, Brad:
I have a suggestion, make a rating bar in each article (for readers to vote), so after some time, there is a good standard that you can remove the low-quality articles. I am really sorry that in your arrangement (in Mid of 2001 ?), some articles disappeared in codeguru, including some good ones...

    Best Regards,

    Jeff

Maybe more people would submit articles if your mail server would accept thier emails.

    Code:
This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:

Your message was not delivered because the destination
computer was not reachable within the allowed queue period.
The amount of time a message is queued before it is returned
depends on local configura- tion parameters.

Most likely there is a network problem that prevented delivery,
but it is also possible that the computer is turned off, or does not
have a mail system running right now.

Your message was not delivered within 4 days.
    Host codeguru.com is not responding.

The following recipients did not receive this message:

         <[email protected]>
    Code:
    Reporting-MTA: dns; toq5.bellnexxia.net
    Arrival-Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2003 18:08:56 -0500
    Received-From-MTA: dns; **** (*.*.*.*)

    Final-Recipient: RFC822; <[email protected]>
    Action: failed
    Status: 4.4.7

It has been like this for over a month. I posted a topic in the general dicussion regarding this but it was just ignored.

Well...just an advice...anything in regard to the forums or submission process should be posted to the Feedback forum rather than the general discussion forum.

I doubt that the administrators will always read the other forums that closely...

Since I have been involved with CodeGuru at a hands-on level, I'm not aware of articles disappearing. If you can give me an idea of what articles those are, that would be great. I'd like to track them down if that is possible.

I do know that just before I took over the daily, hands-on operation of the site, that a number of articles that were linked to special indexes were pushed out into the categories of the site. These special index pages disappeared before I stepped in.

I oversee a few other sites including Developer.com. The end of last year we updated Developer.com and cleaned that site up. Those changes included linking Developer.com closer to these (CodeGuru's) forums. This year (now) I am working on a plan to overhaul CodeGuru.

My plan that I am building will include article ratings and more. I agree that there needs to be a way for people to rate an article so that the great articles and "float to the top." I also would like to see the great gurus within the article contributers float to the top as well.

The plan also contains many of the suggestions that people have suggested. A number of people have sent private messages in e-mails ([email protected]) with great suggestions for the CodeGuru site. I'm working to incorporate a lot of this into my proposal.

Again, if you can give a more specific idea of some of the articles that have disappeared, that would be appreciated.

As Andreas mentioned, I cannot read every forum every day. I do, however, check the Feedback forum very, very regularly as well as check private messages. In fact, I'm notified of postings in both.

I also have posted both of my e-mail addresses on the forums in several messages --

    [email protected]
    [email protected]

The moderators also know how to contact me. A few even have my personal MSN IM address and can contact me near instantly.

The problem with e-mails that don't get through is that the "receiver" never knows they were sent. Thanks for reposting the info here. This is a critical issue that I'll have someone look into immediately.

    heya brad,
there are 2 progs regarding codeguru's site.
    1. no submission wizards (but u said it is being worked on..so i will w8) - i update my articles often and its slowly via the email
    2. i cannot reply to ppl's commets on my articles (always gives 'Fatal Error: Don't know what happened')

i like codeguru's forum very much, thus the site needs alittle fixups
at least this is my opinion

< this thread is way off topic; however, I'm going to let it continue. >

    1. no submission wizards
A "submission Wizard" is a big item on the proposed enhancements.

reply to ppl's commets on my articles
This is something that we've been addressing with the network administrator since CodeGuru was shifted to a new server a couple of weeks ago. Individual articles were being fixed, rather than addressing the bigger issue.

Earlier today, we got the admin to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. I've been told that they've resent the permissions across the site, plus we've changed our utilities to maintain file attributes.

Bottom line, you should now be able to post comments on the articles (including responses). If anyone is still having trouble with comments on an article, send me an e-mail with the article's URL. This should, however, be resolved.

This thread has been unstuck so that it doesn't take up the top of this forum any longer.

Does that mean that your email server has been fixed?

    Brad!
I've noticed it too, not much but a couple of times. Most notibly
for me is some code that is now CodeJock ! Why let some people
post their articles and code here so it can get QA'd then remove it
so they can sell it. Well, that ticked me off
Did codeguru get anything in return for agreeing to remove the
articles and code ? I'm trying to find it now, hope I didn't mean
    codeproject instead
