Software that Creates Interactive Encyclopedia?

I was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction to find out more about software that helps to create electronic encyclopedias. I'd be happy with any leads in that direction - we've got a large encyclopedia we need to make electronic, and I'd like to know what options are out there other than coding it myself. Apparently there is an out-of-the-box software solution that is about $2,000 but I can't find anything about it - not even a name - just heard that it exists.

Not many people ask for such things...

Interactive multimedia softwares are generally used making Macromedia Director....or Macromedia AuthorWare...

Both these need special skills...not as easy as MS Word!

And be warned! You may be infriging copyrights...if the encyclopedia is not written by you...

That's funny you should mention that. I am a Director user/Lingo Programmer - and that is exactly how I would be approaching this project. And yes, we have written the encyclopedia.

One of our clients said that he had someone actually come to him, say there was off-the-shelf encyclopedia creation software that was quick and easy. I've just been trying to find out what it is!! That certainly wasn't part of our project plan!

So did you find out which software does it ? If so, please let all of us at the forum know...

No - I still haven't found out what software it is that could create this. I'm going to go with Director for the development - at least with Director everything is customizable - I can't see encyclopedia software out of the box being much more than template based.

If anyone has other ideas, I'd love to hear them!
